An architect is a person trained in the planning, design and oversight of the construction of buildings, and is licensed to practice architecture. To practice architecture means to offer or render services in connection with the design and construction of a building, or group of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use. Etymologically, architect derives from the Latin architectus, itself derived from the Greek arkhitekton (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), i.e. chief builder. Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus an architect must undergo specialized training consisting of advanced education and a practicum (or internship) for practical experience to earn a license to practice architecture. The practical, technical, and academic requirements for becoming an architect vary by jurisdiction (see below). The terms architect and architecture are also used in the disciplines of information technology (for example a software architect). In most of the world's jurisdictions, the professional and commercial uses of the term "architect", outside of the etymological variants noted, is legally protected. From Wikipedia under the

The question is too general to answer accurately, an architect's fee will be determined by the program/requirement of a given project. There is a significant difference in fees between a 20k sf casino and a 100k sf casino for example. The main reason for this is commercial work will better prepare candidates to pass the ARE (Architectural Registration Exam). You're not an architect until you pass the series of tests. You can look at it this way, an architect who specializes in commercial work will be capable of designing a residence, while an architect specializing in residential work may not be… [cont.] Answered by spam juice - Wed Jul 29 17:09:14 2009 What type of things would an architect carry in their bookbag or pocketbook? An architectural scale, a type of ruler, is used for measuring scaled construction documents, or to scale down real-world measurements to a size that will fit on paper. Q. Currently attending high school and wondering what the process is for becoming an architect. Are there jobs available in Calgary, AB?. Is the University of Calgary a good university to study architecture ?. Is it hard to get into the Master's program ?. thanks for the answers Asked by waiting - Thu Jul 15 23:59:31 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are probably two important things to being successful as an architect: 1. Skill and dedication: These go hand in hand. Without the other, you won't be successful. You need both, and you need to be truthful to yourself. Get other people's opinions as well, those with knowledge in the area, but aren't in the same boat as you (meaning those that would be your competitors.) Getting advice from competitors/rivals can create problems. 2. Connections: To be successful, you need to know people who know people that can get you noticed and good-paying jobs. The school you go to may help/hinder with the above (depending on how famous the school is for their programs in architecture), but the majority of it is up to you.
