Can I use ultraviolet lamps as bactericide for my swimming pool and reduce the chlorine concentration?
Q. What kind of UV lamps would do? I'd activate them off pool operation hours. In an extreme scenario, could I use tanning lamps and even leave them on while te pool is being used? It wouldn't be much different from the real solar radiation. Any experience so far?

A. UV or O3 gas is already used in the swimming pool industry as a supplement to other types of sanitation. Basically there is a box installed near the pool equipment that has a UV bulb in it, and the O3 gas generated by this bulb is pumped into the pool water via tubing connecting to the equipment. Unfortunately, it is not potent enough to be a stand alone sanitizer. The levels of O3 gas you would need to sanitize an entire pool completely would be very unhealthy for human beings considering how reactive this particular gas is with organic tissues. The units they sell are called "Ozoneators", and are very popular in AZ. Although I don't know about availability in your area, but you might want to check your local pool service companies… [cont.]

what lamps are best for growing plants indoors?
Q. also, where can i find them? my roommate and i are starting growing plants indoors and then we are putting them outside, im looking for the best growing lamps there are. i heard of a VHO lamp, but i have no idea what that is. please help! I'm growing nothing that i couldn't put outside for the rest of the world to see.

A. you can by grow lamps at your hardware stoe,( lowes, home depot, etc) look on they web for them.

Are ultraviolet lamps really good as disinfectants?
Q. I wish to keep my house totally disinfected, free from any small germs. I have heard that switching on ultraviolet lamps (when I would not be in the house) will clean my house of all germs. I have also seen these things in hospital operating rooms, etc. Are these things really, really effective?

A. i have to agree somewhat, your immune system only knows to fight back when something invades it. thats just how it works. but theres no sense in living in a moldy TB infested pit either lol. UV is very effective against most all live things like TB, strep, molds etc. the intensity, wavelength and how long its on will determine how much it kills. some things are harder to kill with it though just depends. useful thing to have around if you want, sunlight is hard to beat though. UV is used for many types of decontamination yes but is not effective for every thing.
