Why is the news media quite about the Senatorial elections?
Q. In 2008 there is 22 Republican seats inwhich there will be no incumbents, and 12 Democrates. Even if the Republican candidate becomes President, it is possible for the Democrates to have a major majority in the Senate and be able to over ride any Presidential veto. But I not seen any news media discussing these election seats. Why?
Asked by Bambi C - Thu Nov 29 02:01:18 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It is my belief that many Senators will ride into office on the coat tails of the winning party's Presidential Candidate. Also, many Senators are strapped for campaign funds, because the Presidential Candidates are getting most of the available funds. I believe you will see more news related to Senators after the deadline in December and after the Primaries in each state.

Do you think the news media is partly responsible for the shootings in Omaha?
Q. This kid states in a letter he wanted to be famous. Should the news media take some blame because all the exposure these killers get? Then you have to hear about our soldiers being killed (we never here about the ones coming home disbabled for life)! I think our country's focus on celebrities and events such as the one in Ohama is shameful. The media does focus on the wrong things, but they do it because people are watching. One big problem with this is that there are not enough responsible parents sitting down with their children and talking about the issues. I think I want to start my own show. Which news media on TV gives the best coverage of all of the candidates without bias?
Q. I am finding it difficult to find a news media on TV who gives equal coverage to all candidates without slamming some candidates while putting others on pedestals. Personally, I feel offended by the news media that suppresses the news because they support a candidate. Rather than reporting the news, they are censoring the news and thereby taking away my ability to make an informed decision. Does true news reporting exist today or is it just what they're paid to report or exclude? Don't news reporters have some kind of regulations or guidelines to follow?

Are the masses really leaning Obama or is the news media steering them in that direction?
Q. Do you believe the polls right now? Are people really leaning heavily towards Obama or is the news media steering them and the polls in that direction? Leading by 4 or 5 points is not a landslide in my opinion.

A. The polls are always skewed democratic. look at the Gore/Bush and Kerry/Bush elections- The democrats were ahead in every poll. The media fawning over Obama is hurting him more than helping him. Most Americans are disgusted by this- and we don't want CNN or MSNBC telling us how to run our country.

Do you think that the news media does more to expose or to cover up?
Q. Does it lie through omission? If a crime is commited, and on investigation it becomes obvious that it was a "job" done by The System, does the news media tend to follow through with the case or sweep it under the rug? What do you think its the impact of news media in the US?
Q. I see the necessity of being informed, but it seems that todays news outlets don't care about informing but about getting high ratings/hits for publicity. They jump into conclusions fast just to create a shock factor and make people view them. Personally, I think they are dangerous. What do you think of the US news media? from broadcasts to sites like CNN, yahoo, fox, etc?

A. It is a mixed bag. Many of the modern news shows are sacrificing objectivity--in an effort to boost their ratings and maximize profits--by appealing to the lowest common denominator. The high percentage of viewers that only watch one or the other of the popular, one-dimensional news networks would seem to confirm this. It is an unfortunate fact that, in these days of declining newspaper readership, most Americans tend to get their news from TV. The lowest common denominator, in this context, are the folks who believe everything on FOX, Al Jazeera, the Rush Limbaugh Show, or MSNBC's Ed Shultz Show, along other supporting programming. All good news would make some people jealous or worse, suicidal. (just think if the guy that just had his house burned down and lost everything he owned watched the news and it was all about smart kids in school, great honors people were given, and how rich people spent their millions on great things...that would suck for them)

Does anyone else think the news media is politically biased?
Q. I am SO sick of seeing the faces of Obama and Clinton, I could vomit! Is the news media politically biased? It seems like they're speaking as if either of those two Democrats will win the presidency, and no one else is even running. I know I'm not voting for Obama or Clinton, but I feel like nobody's really covering the Republican side of the presidential race to give Americans a fair look at the candidates.

A. The republican race is virtually over at this point- McCain is going to win the nomination. They'll start focusing more evenly after each parties National Conventions, when each party has officially chosen its candidate. Edit: The most biased news channel is easily Fox.

Why is the news media showing dead Haitians?
Q. It's tasteless and insensitive. They didn't show dead Americans on 9/11. It clearly shows that racial double standards exist in the mainstream news media.
Asked by Neely - Fri Jan 22 17:02:52 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It has nothing to do w/ race, and how would they show dead Americans during 9/11 when MOST of the people who were dead were still trapped in the building? And for the others who jumped, why would you want to see something that gruesome? I'm positive they showed dead bodies, but I mean it would be 100x worse than the images they're showing in Haiti. If you're watching a video, reading online, or watching from your tv about Haiti; and it has graphic material, it will generally have a warning before it plays.

During the Holiday Season Why Does the News Media Always Target Certain Groups?
Q. Why is it that the news media always portray the Black or Hispanic Families on the receiving end of charitable gifts. Many people of both groups help others and give charitable donations and help feed the hungry along with gifts to organizations. To me this appears to put a negative view of Blacks and Hispanics. A. You're right of course. If they cover a story that is simply a mild concern, no one will watch - ratings fall. So every story has to be an edge-of-your-seat story. The biggest offenders in this category are the top of the hour 5 minute news casts on the radio. They need to prevent people in their cars from changing the radio station, and truly sensationalize everything. I watched a TV news crew here in my town last spring when we had some flooding. Is the news media spinning out of control? Are they telling us who to vote for?
Q. This question is for Republicans and Democrats. Specifically, I am thinking of the Republican debate at the Reagan library. I am not a Republican but it was obvious to me that Huckabee and Paul were left out. What effect did this have on the subsequent primaries? Why does the News Media keep quoting anti-Obama Propagandists on the internet?
Q. The right wing has been pushing Obama-hate for months and the media hasn't picked up on the fact that it is being used. There are multiple posts by thousands of people who are working for one goal, to upset the elections. Why can't they stop looking for the easy story on the internet?

A. because there's nothing else to do. this is not an 'issue' election. meaning it's difficult to attack his political positions because they are also held by the majority of americans. so one must attack his character instead. same thing they tried with bill clinton in '96. the lowest form of debate is personal attack. but everyone knows it's also the most effective. The motto of the news media is if it bleeds it leads. Do they just report one disaster after another and?
Q. with hyperbole? You will never hear anyone in the media say thankfully there were no injuries or casualties. Is the media egregious and criminal with their primitive mindset that people are only interested in apocalyptic happenings when everybody is actually fed up with hearing about it? Fox News with Glenn Beck alone are felons.

A. The motto you cite refers to a philosophy of tabloid TV stations, but even that is overstated. There is a ton of good news available in every source, particularly newspapers (because it has the space to develop stories). I just read a story today about a program designed to improve young girls' self-esteem through counseling and running. Tens of thousands of kids have been helped already, and more to come. Yes, the news can be discouraging because news is often bad. There is rarely a story on a plane landing safely; it's the one that doesn't which is news. But if you look, you'll find good stuff.
